Set time limits on messages from others

Sometimes you need to set a custom time limit for people who send you messages. For example, maybe you only want people to be able to send you recordings that are five minutes long or less.

This article explains how to do that.

Tip: Would you like to limit the types of messages that others can send (screen, camera, mic-only, text)? You can do that too. See those instructions here.

Who do time limits apply to?

Custom time limits only apply to non-members of your account (guests and anonymous users). You and your team members will not have a time limit imposed, regardless of your time limit settings.

Which messages are time limits applied to?

There are three places where you can set custom time limits:

  • At the account level: Sets the default time limit across all new messages sent in your conversations and intake pages.

  • At the intake page level: Sets the time limit on messages sent via this specific intake page. This overrides the account-level setting.

  • At the conversation level: Sets the time limit on messages sent in this specific conversation. This overrides the account-level setting.

Set an account-level time limit

When you set a time limit at the account level, this time limit applies to all messages across your account—unless overridden at the intake page or conversation level.

Go to Account Settings > "Limit message recording length" and select a time limit, then click the "Update" button to save.

Set an intake page time limit

When setting up an intake page, you can impose time limits only on messages sent via this particular intake page.

By default, it will use your account's default time limit setting, if set.

You have the option to set "No time limit" here, which would eliminate the time limit for this intake page, even if you have a limit set at the account level.

Or you can set a specific time limit that would apply only to this intake page.

Set a conversation time limit

Sometimes you might need to set a time limit on messages sent inside one specific conversation.

You can set this by opening up a conversation's settings panel > "Advanced Settings" > Set the time limit here.

By default, it will use your account's default time limit setting, if set.

You have the option to set "No time limit" here, which would eliminate the time limit for this conversation, even if you have a limit set at the account level.

Or you can set a specific time limit that would apply only to this intake page.
