Most coaches understand the importance of effective communication. But for Chris Marr, founder of The Authoritative Coach and author of the book “Become an Authoritative Coach,” communication isn’t just a supplemental soft skill that benefits his coaching business—it’s the very foundation of his coaching business.

Chris primarily coaches client-facing professionals—consultants, leaders, and even fellow coaches—to help them address their own client communication challenges. “So, for example, helping people to overcome people pleasing or imposter syndrome to turn up authoritatively as the expert,” Chris explains.

We chatted with Chris to learn more about his coaching business and how Clarityflow helps him communicate with his clients efficiently, authentically, and of course, authoritatively.

Momentum and meaningful connection: How Chris uses async coaching in his business

Chris’ coaching model incorporates live, online sessions for clients—usually once per month or every other week, depending on the client's engagement. He also runs a group coaching program every week.

But outside of those live sessions, “Async coaching in my business is huge,” Chris says. In between sessions, he likes to have an easy way to share relevant content or guidance. But, more than that, he says async touchpoints help him keep pushing his clients forward. “Async coaching plays a critical role in keeping momentum going with clients between sessions,” he shares.

While Chris doesn’t currently offer async-only coaching packages, he’s keeping that in mind as an option for the future—particularly for clients who have made it through their major challenges and need more periodic support. Even so, Chris says he can’t overstate the crucial role of async coaching in his business. “Async coaching is the model,” he says. “It just so happens I also have online sessions.”

Async without the headaches: How Chris found Clarityflow

Chris has long recognized the importance and benefits of async coaching, which means he’s tried several different solutions to make communication between sessions easy for him and his clients.

He started with a coaching community on Slack, which he says worked reasonably well. But, since the platform is built for teams rather than coaches, he quickly felt like it wasn’t the right fit for his business and his needs.

Following Slack, he made the move to a popular and well-known community platform. However, he thought it was clunky and limited the ways he could facilitate his coaching. “I found it difficult, so I had a sense my clients would find it difficult as well,” Chris adds.

After hearing about Clarityflow months earlier from a friend, Chris admits it was always in the back of his mind as an option for the future. “When the problem started to arise for me in terms of keeping my clients in one place and not having emails and WhatsApps, I just knew this was going to be the right tool,” he says. “Clarityflow is built for my exact business model and it allows me to do my coaching in a way that I want to.”

He signed up and hasn’t looked back. And now he readily admits just how important Clarityflow is to his coaching business. “I see Clarityflow as one of the most critical apps in my business to help me facilitate my relationships and my coaching with my clients,” he adds.

Simple and streamlined: How Clarityflow has positively impacted Chris’ coaching business

One of the things Chris says he loves most about Clarityflow is just how straightforward it is for him to use. “It's really simple for me,” he says. “I have one app that does everything.”

But Chris says Clarityflow isn’t just intuitive for him—it’s intuitive for his clients too. “It’s seamless for my clients. They only see what they need to see,” Chris adds.

On top of streamlining his client communication, Chris says Clarityflow has been instrumental in helping him simplify his business model. “I’ve been able to build a coaching business using this one, single application. I think that speaks for itself,” he says.

However, Clarityflow has also helped him maintain that oh-so-important client momentum between live coaching calls.

“For example, I sent a 25-minute audio file to a client through Clarityflow to give them feedback on a document they sent me,” he says—something that otherwise would have involved a lot of back-and-forth or, even worse, waiting for a live session to roll around again.

Since Chris’ clients are largely other coaches, he mentions that many of them immediately recognize the value of Clarityflow. “One of my clients recently signed up to use Clarityflow with her own clients,” he explains. “I think that’s a good signal that my clients see the power of the platform and how they could be using it too.”

All in all, Chris says finding Clarityflow hasn’t just improved his coaching business—it’s allowed him to have a coaching business in the first place. For Chris, Clarityflow is more than just a platform. “I see Clarityflow as a partner in my coaching business,” he concludes. “That’s how critical the platform is to the work that we do.”
